Teaching
Stefanie is passionate about teaching, always aiming at bringing out the very best in every individual and group. Seeing the whole human being beyond the instrumentalist is a fundamental pillar of her lessons, and every session focuses both on improving technique and on developing musicianship and creativity. She specialises in mentoring all types of ensembles from intimate duos to full-scale chamber orchestras, and her expert coaching combines deep concentration, high expectations and great fun.
Currently Stefanie serves on the faculty of the Streichquartettwochen with chamber music courses taking place throughout the year at various locations in Germany. www.streichquartettwochen.de
She also runs a private cello studio in Fürth, Germany, and is regularly booked to coach ensembles in tailormade intensive courses.

Performing Solo
The cello lends itself extremely well as a solo instrument, a fact Stefanie enjoys tremendously and often makes use of.
She puts her programmes together to suit each location and event especially, defying a single genre classification.
Her repertoire consists of classical pieces from all eras – Baroque to contemporary – as well as an expansive list of pieces written or arranged for cello solo from areas as diverse as Rock, Flamenco, Celtic, Folk Songs from countries such as Thailand, Japan, Spain, or England, Tango, Jazz, Klezmer, and within all of which she improvises, making each tune her own and adapting it to the sonorities of the cello.
Stefanie has given solo performances in churches, under graffitied bridges, on open air stages in parks, in backyards, palaces, private salons, chamber music concert venues, under trees, at conventions, festivals, demonstrations, memorials – always explaining in a conversational manner a bit about the background of each piece.
Recent performances include a string of daily solo cello vigils during the recent COP26 Climate Conference at various locations in the U.K., a series of Evensong services based on the Bach solo suites at Kraftshof church in the midst of the pandemic, or a concert themed “Cello Azul – Around the World in 20 Tunes” in the Südstadtpark in Fürth. She has also commenced her outdoor ad hoc solo appearances called “It´s Tree Time” which are directly aimed at raising awareness about the climate emergency whilst raising funds for a tree planting charity.
Collaborative Work
Making music in small ensembles together with others is one of Stefanie´s favourite activities:
From the moment she held a cello in her hands she was drawn to the fantastic world of chamber music.
Over the past 30 years Stefanie has performed extensively in just about every imaginable combination of strings, strings plus piano, cello ensembles of all sizes, numerous chamber orchestras, as well as in lots of other combinations involving collaborations with woodwind, brass and percussion players, singers, actors and dancers, often not adhering to the strict boundaries of classical and non-classical music.
Current intensive collaborations include:
- Tacaeddish – Celtic/Klezmer/Tango duo with clarinettist Felicitas Gätzschmann
- Orchester Ventuno – a professional string orchestra based in Franconia
- Duo and Trio - with pianist Rolf-Dieter Arens and violinist Andreas Hartmann
- Trio and larger formations - with pianist Lorenz Trottmann and actor Michael Herrschel
As well as performing with many other project-based ensembles.
